Newtown Youth Football and Cheer
Welcome to the web site of Newtown Youth Football and Cheer.  The Newtown Nighthawks are part of the Candlewood Valley League made up of youth football and cheer teams from Ansonia, Aspetuck, Bethel, Brewster, Bridgeport, Carmel, Hudson Valley, Mahopac, Monroe, Newtown, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Shelton, Somers, Southern Dutchess and Yorktown.  The Candlewood Valley League is a charter member of the American Youth Football League who participates in the "All American Division” (Unlimited Weight/Grade Specific).  AYF is the fastest growing youth organization in America and is the nation's largest youth football and cheer organization with over 450,000 members with leagues in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Western Europe and Asia.

The 2009 season begins on Monday, August 3rd for both Football and Cheer.  For Football players, NYF&C will provide helmets, shoulder pads, girdle with hip and butt pads, knee pads, mouth piece, practice jerseys and pants, home and away uniforms and mouth pieces.  Each player will need to provide and wear a support cup and cleats to each practice.

Athletic participation is a privilege that is EARNED!  Each football player and cheerleader will need to complete 10 hours of conditioning.  Once the 10 hours of conditioning has been completed, the football player will be allowed to wear all pads and participate in full contact.  Football will practice 5 days a week during August up until Labor Day Weekend, and then up to 8 hours per week thereafter.  Cheer will practice Mon-Thurs during August and up to 8 hours per week thereafter, based on age.  All participants are expected to come to every practice and be on time.  The Candlewood Valley League’s level of play is considered to be Travel/Competitive and the commitment level will reflect that.

All Football Players, Cheerleaders and their parents represent the Newtown Youth Football and Cheer program and our organization is here to provide an athletic environment that promotes Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Physical Fitness and Competition.
